Tahoe To Remember 1960 Olympic Games
As the Lake Tahoe area prepares a bid to get the Olympics back in 2018, one group of residents is looking to the past. They want to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Winter Olympic games held there in 1960.

About a dozen people have been meeting recently to plan a season-long Olympic Heritage Celebration that will take place in 2010. One of them is Squaw Valley marketing director Christine Hovarth. She says the games put the region on the map for winter sports.
We want everyone to buy into recognizing that this was the place where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held, but the actual event itself would consist of duplication of events, fundraising dinners, athlete recognition type of things, maybe parades, who knows?
Although most of the events were held in Squaw Valley, the cross-country races were held on parkland on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. The committee is hoping for some park funding to stage the event. If successful, the celebration will be repeated every four years.
