The federal government is investigating the non-profit organization founded by Sacramento mayoral candidate Kevin Johnson.
The Sacramento Bee reports the office of the Inspector General is investigating the non-profit after the Bee raised questions about HoodCorps, St. HOPE’s inner-city volunteer program.
St. HOPE executive director Rick Maya:
Maya: "The feds are here (Friday) to look at HoodCorps from 2004 to 2007 and that’s really all I can comment on at this time so that we make sure we are cooperative in their investigation."
The government is reportedly looking into the type of work program volunteers are doing and St. HOPE’s response to allegations of sexual misconduct.
Johnson founded St. HOPE almost two decades ago, and has been active in the organization ever since.
