On Friday, the university will simulate an active shooter incident like the one that took place last year at Virginia Tech. They’re testing out a new automated Emergency Notification System.
Lieutenant Dan Davis is with the Sacramento State Police Department.
"We’ve had a system in place where we could send out voice mails and e-mails. The text messages and cell phone calls is a new component that we’re adding into that and so it has more options for notifying everybody."
During Friday's active shooter scenario, a select group of faculty, staff and students will get a text message alerting them that the campus is conducting a test.
Sacramento State officials say they’d also notify the campus community during a flood, fire or hazardous materials spills.
