Linda Tucker is with Sacramento’s Transportation Department. She says the event is also a celebration of future waterfront development.
"We’re calling a 'Toast to Tomorrow' because the Tower Bridge is like the backdrop for all the economic development that will be happening over the next several decades along the riverfront."
Last year, about $12 million was spent to make the bridge more pedestrian and bike friendly by widening the sidewalks from three feet to almost 10 feet.
Saturday's celebration is from 1-2 PM but the bridge will be closed to cars from noon to 2:30 PM.
Motorists will be redirected by police to use the I Street Bridge.
