Four Local Residents to Carry Torch
Nearly 40 Northern Californians will carry the Olympic torch tomorrow/this afternoon through San Francisco – and four are from the Sacramento area. KXJZ profiles one of them.

Sacramento resident Sean Baumstark is 26 years old, and he has a degenerative nervous disease called Friedreich’s ataxia.
Baumstark: “It takes away basically all of your muscle control and movement.”
Which means he’ll eventually wind up in a wheelchair. But Baumstark’s not sitting around and waiting for that to happen. Last month, he biked from Sacramento to Las Vegas.
Baumstark: “I want to bring attention to this disease. There’s a lot of people that have this disease or others like it that a lot of people just don’t know about. And one thing we want to do is raise as much awareness as we can to help propel cures.”
He told NPR’s Day to Day he hopes his carrying the torch will have the same effect.
Baumstark: “I’m looking forward to running tomorrow while I still can.”
Also chosen to carry the torch: Sacramento residents Jill Savery and Jill Mason, and Trevor Robinson of Fair Oaks.
