Michael Donahoe is with the Tahoe Area Sierra Club Group. He says the question comes down to…”who owns the lake?”
"…is it the few hundred people who happened to have lakefront property? Or is it the few hundred million people who have invested over half a billion dollars in restoring Lake Tahoe over the last 10 years. We think it’s the latter."
Under the proposal, the number of new, private piers allowed around the lake would be 104, down from 220, and only five could be built in a year, rather than 10. But environmentalists say that would still pose threats to the lake’s fragile ecosystem.
Public workshops on the proposed rules are expected to be held this summer.
