Republicans want to repeal college tuition assistance for undocumented students.  They also want to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Another bill would deny bail to illegal immigrants charged with gang-related crimes or violent felonies.  Republican Assemblyman Bob Huff calls the measures common sense.

“Why do you let felons get out on bail? Why do you let those who have committed crimes who are here in our country without permission go back out on the streets? These things don’t make any sense. We need to have the safety of our communities and the integrity of our budget system as priorities.”

The future of the bills does not look good in the Democratic-controlled legislature... A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez said the measures are meant only to score political points with voters… and that they’re quote “dead on arrival”.
