Governor Schwarzenegger told a recent conference on green technology that nuclear power has a great future in the state. There has been a ban on building new plants in California since the 1970’s.  But Schwarzenegger says it’s a carbon-free source of energy—and should be looked at.

“I know there are people who are scared about it and I know there are certain environmentalists who put the scare tactics out there and frighten everyone that we’re going to have another blow up, but I think the technology’s advanced so much…”

Republican Assemblyman Chuck Devore is thrilled at the Governor’s comments.  Devore has tried repeatedly for a return of nuclear power.  He has two measures this year—one would eliminate the state ban. However, Devore notes those on key committees remain against the idea because of environmental concerns.
