It’s called fibromyalgia. It causes chronic, widespread pain and other symptoms like depression and fatigue. Democratic Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally will introduce a resolution to create a task force for the disease this week.
Dymally: “Out of my own ignorance I felt compelled to do something about it.”
President of the National Fibromyalgia Association, Lynne Matallana, says California would lead the nation if the team of health care leaders and lawmakers is approved.
Matallana: “We hope that with all of these various groups coming together we’ll be able to increase research and increase awareness and help patients have a better opportunity for diagnosis and treatment.”
The resolution requires the task force to create an action plan to submit to the governor and Legislature. It also calls for a Fibromyalgia Summit next year.
