Mexican President Felipe Calderon will pay his first visit to California Wednesday. And you can bet immigration will be high on the list of topics he’ll address with state officials.

Calderon’s visit to the golden state is part of a multi-city tour. He’s not planning a meeting with President Bush – but he will visit with Governor Schwarzenegger and California’s top lawmakers. He’ll also give an address to the entire state legislature...and he’s expected to talk about illegal immigration. Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez says he invited Calderon to come:
“The visit of President Calderon to California is not a symbolic gesture of goodwill, but in fact, in effect, what it is, is an expression of appreciation and the need to continue to strengthen those economic ties.”
A spokeswoman for the Governor says Schwarzenegger looks forward to talking with the Mexican President about issues such as border security, the environment and strengthening trade between the two countries.
