Plans are underway to renovate the park’s existing sports field and call it “The Jeff Mitchell Memorial Field”. Mitchell had a passion for baseball.

Steve Furman is the lead landscape architect. 

"It’s much more higher end designed field than your traditional Little League field. There’ll be also a memorial wall which will dedicate the field to Jeff in his honor but also to public servants that have fallen in the line of duty."   

Mitchell was killed in the line-of-duty in October of 2006 during a routine traffic spot on Dillard Road in South Sacramento County. His killer was never found. 

A fund drive for the $1.5 million renovation kicks off Monday at a reception in El Dorado Hills.
