Prop. 93 Fallout: Legislative Leadership Shakeup
Now that a ballot measure to change term limits has failed, there's sure to be turnover in the legislative leadership at the State Capitol.

At the end of this year, three of the four legislative leaders will be termed out: That’s two Democrats: The Assembly Speaker and the Senate President Pro Tem – and the Republican leader in the Senate. They make up three of the so-called “big five” decision makers. Only Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines and the Governor have a few years left in office. Villines says any shakeup could be tough come summer:
“If three of the five when we get into the June budget are changed, it would make it more difficult to get a budget done..”
For his part, Governor Schwarzenegger says he’ll work with whoever the new leaders are:
“I don’t get involved in who is going to be the next leader in the Assembly or in the Senate or so. They’re going to work all this out. For me, the most important thing is that we work together.”
It’s not clear when the new legislative leaders might be chosen....but the jockeying has already begun.
