Voter Registration Rolls Swell
California’s new voter registration figures are in. The Secretary of State reports a big jump in the last month and a half….but the increase still isn’t keeping up with population growth.

There are 700-thousand more people signed up to vote than there were before the last presidential primary. That includes about 240-thousand registrations in just the past 45 days. In a statement, Secretary of State Debra Bowen says registration drives across the state have paid off. However, the percentage of eligible voters who are registered is actually down a smidge…from 69 percent to just below 68 and a half percent. The new numbers reflect new voter registrations – as well as the removal of those who’ve passed away or moved. Party-wise, nearly 43 percent are registered Democrats, 33 percent are registered Republicans…and nearly 20 percent are non-partisan – or decline-to-state voters.
