To Leon Panetta, California’s Democratic presidential primary comes down to wine versus beer.
Panetta: “The wine set – being people in the Bay Area, those who are usually pretty high on the income and academic levels – are favoring Barack Obama. But working families, Latino families, working classes are favoring – ones who normally drink beer – are favoring Clinton.”
Panetta was Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff, and he’s donated some money to Hillary Clinton this campaign cycle.
Clinton leads by double digits in recent polls, and Panetta believes Obama must break into her large advantage among Latinos to catch up.
Obama is also strong with young voters and independents. Panetta says their turnout is the hardest to predict – so keep an eye on that, too.
