Hershey’s opened its Oakdale plant 43 years ago.

"I was a youngster when that plant was built."

Farrell Jackson is the Mayor of Oakdale.

"You know, we’ve kind of gotten used to that when the wind blows from the south, you smell chocolate."

That all ends Friday when Hershey’s closes the plant as part of a restructuring plan. Hershey is moving some of its production to Mexico. Jackson says the town is taking it hard.

"Well, naturally we don’t like losing 575 jobs. I know a lot of citizens have boycotted buying Hershey products."

Jackson says the closure will also impact the local dairy industry and nut growers. The Oakdale plant made peanut butter cups and kisses.
