City officials say they’re looking at layoffs to help deal with a $55 million shortfall in the next fiscal year. Assistant City Manager Marty Hanneman says one department in particular will feel deep cuts.
"The city manager has authorized 16 position reductions in the Development Services Department because they’ve been hit the hardest at this point with the downturn in the economy mostly in the housing sector."
But Hanneman says they’ll try to shift those employees to other city jobs. Meanwhile, Hanneman says he’s asking other city department leaders to tell him how they plan to trim up to 20% from their budgets.
