Johnson would be the first clear challenger for incumbent Mayor Heather Fargo. Local political consultants say a poll they conducted showed high interest in the one-time Phoenix Suns basketball player.
Kris Deutschman is Johnson’s spokeswoman.
"He’s seriously considering the option and he believes in the great potential of Sacramento and he’s got a lot of considerations to think about before making a decision but we do expect a decision very soon."
March 7th is the deadline to enter the mayoral race.
Johnson is a Sacramento native. He’s currently CEO of his own real estate development company. He stepped down as chairman of the Saint Hope Charter School Board this week.
The election will be held on June 3rd.
Earlier this month, potential candidates Sacramento County Supervisor Roger Dickinson and state Assemblyman Dave Jones said they would not run.
