If their children are found loitering, parents of gang members could face misdemeanor charges. Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis backs the ordinance. 

"Our top priority is keeping the streets in Elk Grove safe. The gang prevention ordinance would give the police department important tools to be proactive and to insure gangs are eradicated before they take root in our community." 

City Council members Wednesday night directed their staff to research the legalities of such an ordinance.
