California Set to Weigh in on Presidential Race
California political junkies rejoice! It looks like you will have a say in the 2008 presidential election after all! On the morning after the New Hampshire primary, the campaigns are already turning their attention to the Golden State.

A lot of people said Democrats and Republicans would already have crowned their presidential nominees well before the state’s February 5th primary. But that was before Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee and John McCain turned conventional wisdom upside down. Now, says Sacramento State Communications Professor Barbara O’Connor:
O’Connor: “I think California will be a player.”
O’Connor says campaigns are already working furiously to organize voters on the ground here. And she says as many as 40 percent of the state’s residents will vote by mail between now and February 5th.
O’Connor: “By the time we reach Tsunami Tuesday, of which California is a part, people will have been in the state, spent money in the state, and voters will have already voted.”
And, O’Connor says, we might even see a candidate or two visit Sacramento.
