On KXJZ’s Insight Tuesday, Fernley Mayor Todd Cutler said residents are just now starting to clean up.
"People are tearing carpet out. They’re basically beginning to tear their homes apart to get the wet moisture out and begin to dry it. It doesn’t necessarily look good at all for many of our residents."
Building inspectors went door-to-door Tuesday to assess millions of dollars in damage. The flood was caused by a break in a century-old irrigation canal.
Bush Administration officials say the disaster declaration makes grants available for temporary housing and home repairs. It also can be used for low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the disaster.
