Mayor Heather Fargo is running for a third four-year term, and Dickinson would have been considered a legitimate high-profile candidate. But he says he’s focused on his work with the county, citing the issue of youth violence, especially in gangs. And he wants the county to weigh in on global issues like climate change and Iraq.
Dickinson: “I would potentially not have sufficient time or would compromise those issues and initiatives were I to run for mayor at this point.”
Dickinson says he has not yet thought about an endorsement. But another potential competitor has. Assemblyman Dave Jones has already said he plans to stay at the State Capitol; on Wednesday, he said he supports Fargo.
Now, Fargo faces no known challengers – with the election just six months away.
