New UC Davis figures show a four percent rise in monthly rent and a two percent drop in the vacancy rate. Emily Galindo is interim director of Student Housing. She says it’s all about supply and demand.

"We had the largest freshman class than we’ve ever had so when they moved into the community last year you had a larger number of students that are looking for places to live."

UC Davis enrolled a record freshman class of 5,511 students last year. Those numbers are expected to stay the same next year.
