Tsia Xiong is one of the rally organizers. He says because of language in the act, Hmong who fought in a secret war against communists in Laos are considered terrorists. As a result, he says Hmong immigrants can’t get legal status.
"Even though they came here for two or three years as a political refuge from Thailand they have a really difficult time getting their green card and without (a) green card it’s going to be really, really tough for these families to seek employment and to apply for housing."
Federal Department of Homeland Security officials say they’re working on legislation to ease restrictions on the Hmong. Saturday’s rally will be held at Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium from 10 AM to Noon.
