They come from the worlds of sports, literature, film, winemaking and computers. Among the 13 celebrities being inducted this year are Robert Mondavi, Elizabeth Taylor, Willie Mays and Doctor Jonas Salk. Each has a special exhibit in the California Museum, curated by Amanda Meeker. One of her favorite items came from Dr. Salk’s family—it’s some of the original polio vaccine used in trials in 1954.
“It’s amazing that this stuff still exists, people coming here ‘oh that must be red food coloring’ but it’s the real thing!”
Earl Warren’s Supreme Court robe is also featured. The section for author John Steinbeck includes revealing pages from his journal. In them he frets over who will publish his book….The Grapes of Wrath. Other inductees include John Wayne, Tiger Woods, Ansel Adams, Steve Jobs, Jackie Robinson, Rita Moreno and Milton Berle.
