Sacramento could score another big-box retailer. Dick’s Sporting Goods, a major player in the sporting-goods industry on the East Coast, is looking to open five to six stores in the Sacramento region. The retailer, considered a major rival to market leader Sports Authority and Sport Chalet, could open its first local outlets in 2009. The company is considering sites in Roseville, Folsom, Natomas, Citrus Heights and Elk Grove. The company’s average store is about 50,000 square feet with 50 employees. The Pittsburgh-based company has 340 stores nationwide and wants to more than double its lineup to 800 by 2015, including 90 in California.
