City Council members will decide Tuesday whether to ask the city attorney to file a “friend of the court” brief in the case stemming from San Francisco’s same-sex unions in 2003.

City Councilman Ray Tretheway requested the matter.

"I know several same-sex couples that would like to be married in the eyes of their city and county and have the same rights and benefits and responsibilities as other married couples."

On Friday, Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed legislation that would have made same-sex marriage legal.
