The total number of sex offenses increased from 50 in 2005 to 68 last year. That’s according to the 2006 UC Davis campus crime report released Tuesday.

Jennifer Beeman heads UCD’s Campus Violence Prevention Program. She says one of the things they do is encourage women who’ve been victimized to come forward.

"Increased awareness really leads to increased reporting. It doesn’t necessarily means there’s an increase in the assaults. It might reflect that our system’s working on victims feel confident to come forward and seek assistance."

The new crime report also shows increases in aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. However, the number of robberies and drug arrests declined.
