The Cal Expo Board may have given the go-ahead to start looking at a new basketball arena on its grounds, but there are hardly any details. Board members and staff say it’s just too soon in the process to have anything but a clean slate. The man the Board will work with over the next few months or years is sports business consultant John Moag. He’s led efforts to help teams move, find new owners and build stadiums – like the San Diego Padres new ballpark. Now, the NBA has hired him to lead the hunt for a new home for the Sacramento Kings.
KXJZ reporter Ben Adler caught up with Moag after Friday’s Cal Expo board meeting. He started by asking Moag about something one of the board’s non-voting members said. Assemblyman Dave Jones suggested the board look at the costs and benefits of redeveloping Cal Expo both with an arena – and without.
