Just as the committee began gathering signatures to get the Republican-backed measure on the ballot, several key supporters have resigned. Fund-raiser Marty Wilson of Sacramento says there just wasn’t enough support – financial or otherwise.
Under the measure, California would have awarded its votes by congressional district, rather than the current winner-take-all method. Democrats had launched a counter-campaign, calling it a G-O-P plot that could alter the outcome of the 2008 presidential election.
