John Danielson says he wants to pursue other opportunities. He turned in his resignation during Wednesday night's city council meeting.
Councilwoman Sophia Scherman assured staff that the change was not a sign of problems for the seven year old city.
"The word’s out ‘the city manager’s was resigning’ I’m sure a lot of people felt a little nervous about it but please don’t feel that way. Your job is secure and with your help and your assistance, let’s make this transition for the next six months a nice smooth one."
John Danielson is credited with overseeing the formation of Elk Grove’s police department and public transit system.
In recent years, tensions grew between Danielson and some city council members. His resignation becomes effective next April.
