A group of Sacramento residents plans to transform a metered parking space on J Street into a mini-park. They believe the city needs new parks. The development firm LJ Urban is one of the organizers. Spokesman Jason Presley says the purpose is to promote more open space in the city.
"We’re going to have sod that’s laid down, we’re going to be bringing in about 12 different five-foot trees, we’re going to have benches and tables and this small little park will bring some creative thought to how our cities can be made better."
The mini-park will be at a parking space on J Street between 13th and 14th. Friday's event is part of National Park(ing) Day. Similar parking space transformations are happening in 30 other cities across the country.
