RT celebrated with free light rail rides all day Friday today…and a party at the Cathedral Square Station downtown.
“Happy birthday to light rail….happy birthday to yoooouuuuuuuu”
Anne Rudin was among the dignitaries at the party. She was the mayor of Sacramento back in 1987 when light rail service first started along the Highway 50 and Interstate 80 corridors.
"20 years ago I was optimistic. I had a great deal of hope and expectation for this system and the results proved that we were all right when we said it’s the best thing we can do for Sacramento."
Today, RT has five light rail lines….and is currently extending the south line from Meadowview to Cosumnes River College. That line should open in 2009.
