The regular legislative session ends this week, but Governor Schwarzenegger is calling lawmakers back to work. He says it’s critical they finish up a deal to cover the state’s nearly seven million uninsured. Schwarzenegger says it’s also urgent they figure out how to secure and increase the state’s water supply:
“Efforts to reform our broken healthcare system and to avert a water crisis are too important to walk away from simply because of a date in the legislative calendar.”
Schwarzenegger blamed a two-month long budget stalemate for the lack of progress on the issues. Legislative leaders from both parties say they’re ready and willing to get working. A special session allows lawmakers to meet outside of the regular schedule to deal with specific issues of the Governor’s choosing.
