Sacramento has been awarded the 2011 World Masters Athletics Championships, a track-and-field competition for athletes 35 years and older. The event is scheduled for July 7 through July 17 at California State University Sacramento, Sacramento City College and Folsom High School. The 11-day competition could generate an economic impact of $14 million for the region. The World Masters council favored Sacramento, 69-39, over Porto Alegre, Brazil. The World Masters Championships were last held in the United States in 1995, in Buffalo, New York. This is Ron Trujillo for the Sacramento Business Journal.
