State Fire Marshall Kate Dargan says it won’t be easy …
“I suspect this may be one of the most difficult professional challenges I’ve ever had.”
But as co-chair of the California-Nevada Tahoe Basin Fire Commission, Dargan is one of 21 people charged with finding ways to reduce the risk of fire near Lake Tahoe.
“Working in the same arena with multiple parties, all different levels of government (local, state and federal), two different states, and a variety of differing environmental interests and goals is going to be, you know, a piece of work.”
The commission has until March of next year to come up with a list of recommended strategies.  It’ll present that list to both states’ governors, who can put them in place before next year’s fire season.
