Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata called a news conference to urge the Governor to sign their plan – AB 8.  Nunez was hopeful Schwarzenegger would have a change of heart:

"None of us here should assume that the Governor is going to veto this bill unless he himself tells us so after having reviewed the bill.”

But the Governor has consistently said he’ll veto it– because it doesn’t cover everyone, and it puts the burden too much on business.

Schwarzenegger’s not the only one opposed to AB 8.  Hundreds of nurses who say it doesn’t ensure sufficient coverage rallied outside the Democrats’ event.   The nurses support a government-run plan–something the Governor vetoed last year.

Governor Schwarzenegger said today Monday he intended to call a special session of the legislature to deal with healthcare.
