It’s called a Bunya-Bunya tree and is slated to be cut down to make room for Mercy General Hospital’s expansion project. Will Green lives near the tree, located at 39th and H Streets. He’s hopeful city officials will reverse the decision to remove it.
"There are clearly city codes and laws to protect our heritage trees and if they adhere by their laws, that is their city codes, we should save the tree."
Thursday night, Green and other neighbors will appeal the decision to cut down the tree during a public meeting by the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
