Methodist Hospital got shot down for a second time. The hospital has been vying for a coveted level II trauma center designation in South Sacramento, competing against Kaiser Permanente.

But on Tuesday, Sacramento County health officials recommended – again – that Kaiser take the role.

After the officials’ first decision April 10, Methodist filed a formal protest. An independent consultant reviewed the selection process and found it fair.

But nothing is set in stone. The final decision is up to the County Board of Supervisors. That decision will take place Nov. 6. Until then, Methodist plans to continue pursuing the designation.
