Starting September 14th, employers may be held liable if the Social Security Administration can’t verify a worker’s number. Al Rojas with Frente de Mexicanos en el Exterior says Mexican immigrants working in local hotels, restaurants and agriculture are scared.

"There’s a lot of fear and a lot of uncertainty about whether if they go to work they’re going to come back to their children while their children are in school and whether they’re going to be able to find their father and mother returning back home."

Rojas says the new immigration rules will hurt the economy by disrupting the work force. Immigration officials say the new guidelines are meant to help employers follow the law.

A protest rally at the State Capitol is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, at 10 AM.
