You may soon have to pay more for things like a marriage license or birth certificate. The county’s Budget Officer Linda Foster-Hall says all county departments are recalculating their fee structures to help eliminate a projected $33 million budget deficit.
"It’s not only trying to deal with the budget shortfall but I think that there’s an expectation with the public that we charge fees appropriately to cover our costs so that then there is money available for those services."
She says some fees may actually go down or stay the same. County budget officers will give the Board of Supervisors an update on the fee restructuring Tuesday. Additional revenues would be budgeted in the fiscal year 2008-2009 spending plan.
