The new owner of the Red Lion Hotel near the Arden Fair mall has detailed plans for a $55 million project to convert the decades-old hotel into a luxury destination, complete with entertainment facilities and a neighboring spa. Developer Jeffrey Berger wants to build a three-story commercial building on the 20-acre property with health clubs, spas, beauty salons and cosmetic-surgery practices. Another new building would include a bowling alley. The 376-room hotel – the fourth-largest in the region – opened in 1954, and has undergone numerous remodels over the years. Under the current plan, about 100 rooms would be eliminated. The hotel will remain open during the two-year project.
