Prosecutors Fight Early Release Of Inmates

They’ve filed a motion in federal court seeking to block a three-judge panel from ordering the early release of inmates. Lana Wyant with the Sacramento County DA’s office says it’s a matter of public safety. 

"We need to make sure that dangerous and violent criminals who’ve been sent to prison aren’t released to commit more crimes in the communities they came from."

Instead, prosecutors support an $8 billion prison construction bond.

The three-judge panel was created last month to deal with the problem of prison overcrowding.
