Martin Rosenberg – who lives in the Lawrence Park area of South Sacramento – is organizing a picnic for his neighborhood. He says the event is about building neighborhood spirit to fight crime.   

"There have been some break-ins in some of the homes in the neighborhood. I’m just hoping that more of our neighbors will get more involved and not just sort of turn away and say ‘oh well let somebody else deal with that.’"

More than 70 neighborhoods throughout Sacramento are planning National Night Out events Tuesday. Mayor Heather Fargo along with local police and fire officials will be making appearances at some of those events.
