CHP Officer Scott Russell
A memorial will be held Monday in Roseville for the California Highway Patrol officer killed last week as he tried to stop a high speed chase
Authorities believe thousands may attend the memorial service for CHP officer Scott Russell Monday morning. In addition to many of Russell’s fellow CHP officers, police from around the country are expected to be there.
Russell was struck and killed last Tuesday outside of Sacramento as he laid a spike strip on Highway 50. He was trying to stop a high speed chase. Police say the man involved in the chase, David Zanon, deliberately swerved to hit Russell.
Zanon has pleaded not guilty to a first degree murder charge and a pair of attempted murder charges involving two other police officers.
Russell was 46 years old. He’s survived by his wife. The memorial service is open to the public and begins at 11:00 Monday moning at Adventure Christian Church in Roseville
