A day after calling the budget holdup a form of “fiscal terrorism” Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata seemed to regret the remark… He says it’s time to move past that and get the Governor involved in discussions.
“The Governor always has the power of his blue pencil. And when it’s a Republican Governor, you would assume he would blue pencil—that is make vetoes—over items in the budget that would be approved by Republicans.”
But Senate GOP Leader Dick Ackerman says lawmakers need to work this out themselves.
“Again it’s not the Governor’s responsibility to pass out the budget it’s our responsibility and our goal is to have a budget that balances this year and that’s what they’re going to try and do.”
Governor Schwarzenegger is urging leaders to come to an agreement, saying he’s offered his veto power to help get the budget passed.
