The old Firestone building near Capitol Park is set to get hot. Developers are planning two national restaurants, an Irish bar and a nightclub for the building on 16th and L streets in downtown Sacramento. The entertainment center will include a California Pizza Kitchen and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine bar.
Some in the industry, however, caution developers about building more restaurants in an area that has become saturated with them in recent years. They questions whether a the market can continue to support so many eateries within blocks of each other.
The Firestone building, built in 1929, won’t require any zoning changes, so the only thing that stands in the way are design changes that must pass Sacramento’s City Preservation Commission. That hearing is set for Wednesday.
