Mandatory no-burn restrictions would go into effect on specific days in the winter time when air quality is at its worst. Christina Ragsdale with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District says people who don’t follow the rule could be penalized.
"Well if people chose to burn on those days there could be a fine imposed. This is a proposed rule so we’re looking for public comment. Changes can be made to the rule before it goes before the board."
The district is holding eight open house meetings to tell people about the proposed rule and get feedback.
