Supervisors had been eyeing a plan by a Sacramento developer to build a stem cell research center and homes on the outskirts of town.

But local residents vehemently opposed to urban growth spoke out against it. Supervisor Mariko Yamada told the audience there was no need for anger.

"I’m a city of Davis resident. I’m not your enemy. I’m not trying to invade your borders. I am you. I participate in many activities for what I believe to be the best interest of the community."

Supervisors say they support building a stem cell research facility in Yolo County but don’t think it’s a good idea to fund the project with profits from a proposed housing development.
