The Senate Rules committee called Mary Nichols in to hear about her plans for the job… She’s taking over as head of the state Air Resources Board following some tumultuous times. Her immediate predecessor was fired, followed by the resignation of the organization’s executive officer. They both said they were pressured by the Schwarzenegger Administration to slow things down when it came to implementing legislation to cap greenhouse gases. It’s a bill the Governor has championed. Nichols assured lawmakers her task is clear.
“And I am completely satisfied that my mandate is to speed up, not slow down…”
Nichols’ appointment has been greeted with widespread approval. The Senate Rules Committee has a year to confirm her to the post.
