City officials Monday announced the results of a vote-by-mail flood assessment election. It was 70% in favor to 30% opposed. City Councilman Bill Kristoff says the vote is good news for West Sacramento.
"It’s very overwhelming. We were very, very pleased. The community has just really stepped up to the plate so to speak and had said that this is a very important issue for them."
The new tax will raise about $42 million for flood protection. Most homeowners will see their taxes increase by about $40 to $120 a year starting in December. Businesses will also be taxed.
